Scattering in a 2-D Optical Waveguide

چکیده
We consider the problem of scattering in a planar optical waveguide. An incident wave, in the form of a guided mode, is sent along the wave-guide. It encounters an inhomogeneity in the core region of the waveguide, and is scattered. We use the Green's function for the planar waveguide to derive a Lippman-Schwinger equation. We show that the integral equation admits a unique solution. The scattering problem is solved under the Born approximation in several numerical examples.

Scaling laws of nonlinear silicon nanophotonics
Scaling properties of two photon absorption, free carrier scattering, Raman scattering and Kerr effect in silicon waveguides is reported. It is shown that the dependence of minority carrier lifetime on waveguide dimensions has a profound impact on the performance of nonlinear optical devices built using silicon waveguides.

In order to implement an integrated optical quantum circuit, designing waveguides based on the quantum box is of prime importance. To do this we have investigated optical waveguide both with and without optical pumping. The rate of absorption and emission using an array of AlGaAs/GaAs quantum box core/shell structure in the optical waveguide with various pumping intensities has computed. By con...
متن کاملUsing of Broadened Asymmetric Waveguide Structure for 980nm Diode Laser
Laser diode beam divergence is the main parameter for beam shaping and fiber optic coupling. Increasing the waveguide layer thickness is the conventional method to decrease the beam divergence. In this paper, the broadened asymmetric waveguide is introduced to decrease the divergence without increasing the optical power. The asymmetric waveguide was used to shift the vertical optical field to n...
متن کاملDesign of Arrayed Waveguide Grating based Optical Switch for High Speed Optical Networks
This paper demonstrates the design of an Arrayed Waveguide Gratings (AWG) based optical switch. In the design both physical and network layer analysis is performed. The physical layer power and noise analysis is done to obtain Bit Error Rate (BER). This has been found that at the higher bit rates, BER is not affected with number of buffer modules. Network layer analysis is done to obtain perfor...
